Let's face it. The glamour of air travel is over. Remember those days as a kid when you went with your family to the airport just to watch the planes take off and land? Remember the glamour and nostalgia of those Pan Am commercials? The adventure of seeing the world in style and being pampered like royalty? Yah, that doesn't happen anymore. Sometimes it feels like the worst part of travel is, well, "travel". Being there is great, but getting there in the modern era of flight can be a challenge. Just remember though, the pain is worth the gain. Seeing the world, learning, immersing yourself in other cultures, cuisine, history and scenery is AMAZING! Well worth the security lines and a few hours on a plane. If you are going to go, you have choices. Consumer Reports Magazine recently surveyed over 55,000 travelers on 11 airlines and 98.000 domestic flights. The winner? Southwest Airlines. Other high scoring airlines include Alaska Airlines, Jet Blue, Virgin America, and Hawaiian Airlines. Those that did not fair as well? Frontier, Spirit, and Allegiant. Frontier and Spirit scored poorly in all categories. If you can afford to fly first class? Delta is the champs for luxury. The survey was about domestic flights, but our experience is there are some great international carriers like Emirates and Qantas. Flying? It may not be as fun as it once was, but as someone who spends a lot of time on airlines. It is so worth getting there.
